ISLAMABAD: According to the project manager for the Islamabad Expressway Expansion, the 4-kilometer section from the Korang nullah bridge to the PWD interchange will be completed by April or May 2023. (Reported by news source)
The 150-meter bridge has 33 girders, each of which the project director claimed was the most difficult to install because the piers are 30 metres high.
Since there isn’t a space for a crane to be placed, the 50-meter-long, 170-ton girders cannot be lifted by one. It takes two to three days to lay one of these girders, which are lifted, drawn, and placed on the piers using a distinct technique.
In addition, he noted, the 35-meter-long east side of the railroad bridge will be finished by January 31.
Construction of the west side bridge would take five to six months because the bridge from the 1960s had to be demolished first.
Asif Ali, the CDA’s director of public relations, reports that this stretch’s construction is going well and that physical labour from PWD to T-Chowk has begun.
