ISLAMABAD: The Centaurus Mall on Jinnah Avenue was reportedly closed for a day due to alleged violations of building laws. However, after objections from the local business community, the Capital Development Authority decided to reopen the mall, albeit with some of its basement closed off. (Reported by news source)
The CDA partially opened the building’s seal. With the exception of the basement, which remained largely closed due to non-conforming use of space, the mall was de-sealed late in the evening.
The CDA states that only parking would be permitted in the basement, which is what it was built for, and that all offices and other such infrastructure will remain locked up there.
Syed Asif Raza, the CDA’s spokesperson, claimed that political issues prevented the mall from being sealed. The sealing procedure is very standard; previous to sealing Centaurus Mall, we sent the owners multiple letters for violations.
He stated that steps had been and will be taken against any violators. We have sent notices to buildings operating in Blue Area and other areas of the city.
